Has any1 ever tried crossing a belclare ram and mountain ewes?. Will the hoggets retained as replacements have high weaning rate if grazed on lowland? Are there any disadvantages to this breeding policy? Will lambs have good confirmation compared to Hiltex lambs?

If the Belclare ram is very good quality it would be fine.

I've tried a Belclare ram with a small number of mountain ewes before on a lowland run, while I got 5 nice long ewe lambs out of them I also had some very small lambs due to the doubles and triplets from the Belclare cross despite plenty of feeding, difficult to fatten some of the smaller lambs compared to a texel cross, the ram lambs were a pain as kept them an extra couple of months before I could get any decent weight on them! It's a bit risky so depends wether you want money or the chance of nice cross bred ewes
