    Hi folks,

A colleague of mine has asked me to look out for a Canon EOS 70D with an 18-55mm lens, but hasn't indicated what constitutes a decent deal. I'm currently in Taiwan, but will also be passing through Dubai duty free & just wondering what sort of price that unit can be had for back home?

    About 1000-1100 after cashback

    That's great flyingsnail, much appreciated.

It'll be her first entry into the world of DSLR, with nature photography of interest in particular.

I had a quick search online at this end & the Nikon D5300 came up a few times as a decent beginners camera.

She seems keen that I pick one up on the way home, but I've a feeling settling on an SLR's a little like buying a musical instrument - in that it's wise to get a feel for it in the hand before pulling the trigger.

You'll enjoy using the 70D, I have one for almost 2 years and really like it. However, bear in mind the 70D is positioned in the marketplace as an camera suitable for enthusiast / intermediate level photographers, as opposed to a DSLR for beginners.

Check out the Canon 760D which has a lot of 70D "goodies" especially the really fast auto focus system. It will come in at a better price and is aimed at someone new to DSLR photography. Plus it allows you to invest in some decent lenses as well.

Don't expect to get much reach with the standard 18-55mm lens. If anyone is doing a bundle deal on the 24-105mm lens go for that one. But again it may not have the reach you may need. Keep an eye out for a Canon EF 75-300 USM lens or a Tamron 70-300, good beginners lens with decent reach.

All the very best and enjoy :)

I'm interested in a 70d also, maybe not very camera specific but is that eglobal site legit? It's a good 300e cheaper

Eglobal site very legit. Ordered few things through them. A+

Thanks, was doing a little bit of googling and found a massive thread on here that was also reassuring. Only thing seems to be that you dont have a manufacturers warranty.
