I think North Sea Group merged with Argos Energies in 2011, the latter being purveyors of such brands as Esso, Q8 and Shell. I'd imagine they're alright, they're Dutch and do a lot of OE oils for large trucks.

Did you mean North Sea Lubricants?

My local motor factors have shelves full of it and is offered as the bargain choice so I'd assume it's not top end.

My local Londis/Texaco stocks it and I've used it for top ups. No complaints.

Not sure what complaint I could have though.. it's oil.

How much is a litre of it? Say, 5W-30 semi?

North Sea oil was the cause of many failed BMW engines in the UK about 15 years ago!

Around 8 or 9 I think. Convenience was the deciding factor for me.

nikasil issues due to high sulphur levels of petrol refined from north sea oil

Nope. Dirty (high sulphur) petrol derived from North Sea oil.

    Google "BMW nikasil"

The problem was even bigger in the USA for people using even dirtier petrol from US produced oil.

The Nikasil thing affected cars from a good few manufacturers, like Porsche, Jaguar and Ferrari. It was widespread in the '90s because it is tremendous stuff for cylinder bores, but nowadays it's really only used in racing on account of the sulphur situation with regular forecourt petrol.

I've been using North Sea for years, never a problem. Used to do a bit of work for a Dutch haulage firm that only changed the oil every 100,000 km, used only North Sea as well.

Funny thing is that petrol nowadays has a very low sulphur content. Even in the UK and the USA!

Jaguar in particular got such an almighty hiding over the whole episode I reckon no-one at Castle Bromwich is allowed to speak the N-Word again. Even Aprilia dropped the mental little RS125 with it's Nikasil-lined cylinder in 2012.

And Jaguar was lucky enough to be in the shadow of BMW, who had to resort to extending the warranty to 6 years and 100k miles and do hundreds (maybe even thousands?) of engine replacements FOC

Strange enough that you can blame a manufacturer (who tested their cars with the prevailing petrol in Europe - based on clean Arab oil) when you've been putting polluted petrol from somewhere else in the world into their cars! I guess the power of the consumer in the USA is mighty and goes far beyond legal and even moral obligations

Im pretty sure the OP was referring to North Sea Lubricants which is a brand of oil, not oil from the actual north sea.

Screw 'em. They knew well enough where their products were going, and what they'd be running on. :D
