Is it very unsafe to put a 26.0 bar into a smaller 25.4 stem, could the hnadle bar or stem collapse ? , will it even fit ?Has anyone done it ?

If I can do this I can save a good bit of money on the touring bike I'm building

    Thanks in advance

A stem is something i wouldn't mess around with - failure is going to be cathosptrohic if it goes wrong.

I would imagine the nuts wouldn't be fitted to their full depth if they're limited by a thicker bar - not sure of the implications and someone else might come here to disagree, but personally not something I'd be comfortable with.

I unwittingly had a 26.0 bar in a 25.4 stem for a few years. I always did wonder why the bar had an ovoid shape and deep grooves where the stem clamped on it.

    Wouldn't do it again!
