Why were Anglo-Irish Bank called Anglo-Irish Bank?

    I've always wondered why - as they did not seem to have anything to do with England or the Anglo-Irish people.

    It is covered in Simon Carswell's book, Anglo Republic, which I highly recommend if you haven't read it already.

    Basically Anglo Irish Bank was setup in 1964 by 2 London based bankers and some Dublin based bankers and solicitors. Hence the name.
