I'm still on the old standard tax rate band

    Hi all,

Just looking for some advice. Looking at my payslip, my standard rate cut-off is 2733.33 @ 20%.

2733.33 x 12 = €32,800 - which was the old standard cut-off rate. I believe this is €33,8000 now after the budget last year, so why wouldn't my PAYE have been updated to what i believe should be a monthly standard rate cut off of (33,800/12) = 2816.66 @ 20%....?

    Thanks for any advice.

Edit: I should add that all other changes in that budget - i.e. the higher tax rate changing from 41% to 40%, and the change in the USC bands - ARE reflected correctly in my payslip. It is just the standard rate cut-off that hasn't changed. Isn't this a bit strange?

Are you paid once per month? And the same amount each month?

Yup, paid at the end of every month on a fixed salary. I changed jobs in May this year, but looking at the payslips from my previous job from January to April, I was still being taxed at a standard rate of 2733.33 which is the old standard rate of 32,800.

Request a current tax credits certificate, this should update your employer also and hopefully fix this. Similar happened to me - SCROP wasn't increased and my USC credits were non-existent (7% on the lot) for an entire year before that which I somehow never noticed.

    Thanks, I'll do that.

Silly question, but I know I need to get a number from my current employer first - think it's called a tax number or registration number - is that right? What's it actually called? :o

You shouldn't need to get that at all, as Revenue will be aware of your employer already.

Well I just checked on my PAYE Anyime and it still says my employer is my old employer, though maybe these are separate records?

Paye anytime is a mirror of the Revenue systems. If your present employer isn't listed then that could be where the problem is.

No, your employer hasn't registered you properly in that case. Its also possible they're using some random set of credits rather than your real ones as a result. You'll definitely want this fixed before the USC rate drops again in January or else you won't get that either

(obviously any overpayments will be returned on correcting the credits and requesting a P21 for that year)
