Given the prospect of a future United Ireland should the south do more

to create a cultural awareness of Orange Culture? I know for some in the North Orange Culture has been historically provocative. But shouldn't the onus be on us to remove the stigma that surrounds it? I think it would be a tragedy if that culture was erased in a United Ireland considering so many foreigners have come here and maintained their cultures.

    Mod note:

Having not posted here much ill give you a bounce this time but please read the charter. A thread in the general politics forum requires something more substantial than a question as to whether we could do more. What is being done at the moment? What more do you think should be done? Please give specific details or else im closing this thread, because so far it only looks like it will invite sectarian responses.

Sounds like boards.ie is a cold house for Ulster Protestants.

Would you support removing "the stigma" that surrounds the Ku Klux Klan if some Americans came here and wanted to keep their "Culture"?

Do you know the history of the organization and the likes of the Peep O Day Boys that proceeded them?

You can't reunite a community by promoting an organization that was founded to divide them.

In order to move forward the north of this island needs to let go of the past. The children are the key to the future, we need to stop the bigotry being past down. Which is what legitimizing and promoting the likes of the Orange Order is doing.

Both sides need to grow up and get past the rioting over the likes of flags before we can even start to debate a future as part of Ireland/UK/Independent state.

It seems to be ok to commemorate the PIRA who were equally just as bad and a future Sinn Fein gov in the south would ensure official recognition of PIRA sacrifices. The difference between both is that the Orange community will be vastly outnumbered in a United Ireland.

I don't see this going anywhere constructive from here.

    Good Night.

Promote Protestant culture? Yes? What's the difference between Protestant and Catholic culture? Promoting a PUL culture is something else? We could assume that the minority who would not have been in favour of a UI might never be content and we might be back to square 1?
Why would a unionist/loyalist ever be happy in a United Ireland ?

I love this thread, it's like asking a bunch of Stalinists whether we should be more accepting of Nazis. Or Nazis whether we should be more accepting of Stalinists. Six of one, half a dozen of another.

I wonder if Israeli / Palestinian sites get the same kind of threads and responses?

You want to fundamentally change the culture of the north by way of a united Ireland and the same time preserve the very reason it is separate from the republic in the first place.

    Don't think it's gonna work.
