Hard drive woes

My old (over 7 years) laptop broke down around that long ago. It was a problem with the power source but I was told the hard drive was okay. Due to laziness and lack of computer understanding I left it til this year when I realised there are photos on this very old hard drive I reeeeally want.

I've watched Youtube videos on how to switch hard drives, is that crazy? I was also advised that as my old hard drive is from a basiclly obsolute computer there's nothing that can be done....tell me there's something???

Assuming the disk is not damaged -
You need an item called a "hard drive enclosure" - about 25 Euro.
Take the drive out and bring it to a computer shop or get them to take it out (it's easy).
Buy the hard drive enclosure, put your drive into it, maybe they will do it for you.

You can then connect the USB cable from the enclosure to your new laptop.
All your old files are now visible and can be copied.

It's very easy take out a hardrive yourself. You more than likely have and ide hd so you would need an enclosure with that connection.

Take the harddrive out of your laptop, pop it into this, close the case, and you can then use it as a portable hard drive.
