Honing a cylinder

Hi, is there a quick way to perform a satisfactory way to hone a cylinder.I have a hone with either 180 degree stones, or a 280.I used the 280, but roughly how much pressure should you apply to the hone (adjustment can be made to the tool), or how do you get the famous 45 degree "hatching"?

    Some pointers please.

Stick the hone in your drill, adjust so it's just lightly contacting the surface.
Put the cylinder in a vice, slosh some kerosene on the surface and start the drill and move in and out fast enough that you end up with a 45° crosshatch pattern.
You aren't doing anything other than breaking the glaze on the cylinder so only needs 15 sec or so at moderate revs.

Okay thanks. See the attached picture I posted, does that look like the speed was too slow?

I would be afraid of taking off too much even though the grade of stone is only 180.

You aren't pushing it in and out fast enough (said the actress to the bishop).
Use the finer of the stones and plenty of kerosene or light oil and keep cleaning the bore with some paper.

Thanks I'll try that after I charge up the drill again. Actually I made a mistake in my previous post about the stone grade. I am using the 280 grade one.
