    Hi,

I've been looking up Magic the Gathering over the past few days and wanted to know the following

    1: I take it it's not a 1 player game?
2: Where would I start ? buy new starter packs ? or buy larger second hand bundles?
3: There's 1000's of different cards how can I learn what win/beats what and what to do if XYZ happens etc.

only a few questions to start.

    thanks.

Hi NeVeR, hope I can help.

Sadly it's not a 1 player game but there is a digital version for PC, XBox and PS4 that's pretty fun and there's always MTGOnline if you want to play against other players using different deck types (legacy, standard, etc)

If you're in Dublin (which your location says you are) you might want to have a look in Gamers World on Jervis Street as they frequently run different MTG events and also sell cards and sets to get you started. There's frequently players there who could also help or give you advice.

As to your last question, yes there are thousands of cards but there are also different game types like Standard, Modern, Legacy, Cube etc which means there are restrictions on what cards can be used depending on what game type you want to play. Standard for example only uses cards from the most recent expansions (There's a bit more to it than that but if you look it up, you'll quickly get the idea.) But that's only if you want to play using a specific game type. Many players make their own decks from cards from any number of different sets and once you know what types of cards do and what colours you like to play, you'll quickly be doing the same.

As to what deck to use, once you start playing, you'll begin to get a feel for what kind of colours or play type works best for you. (Bit of a Mono White fan myself!) but the best way to learn is to play!

I hope that helps and good luck!
