Central Heating costs/savings

    Hi
So its that time of year when the heating goes on again.
Im trying to find out costs associated with central heating and how to save/best use it.
Tonight i'm going to put it on and check the meter to calculate the cost per hour, but while I'm here I might as well ask for a rough cost if anyone could guide me? I know it depends on your house etc, but roughly, three bed semi, old house so no good insulation. I wouldn't have a clue if its 2 euro an hour or 50 cent

But my real question is while I was on google I was reading a lot of chat. People are saying its more cost effective to basically leave your heating on constant for a number of hours, some people even leaving it on 24/7 (this thought horrifies me) and its cheaper than putting it on 'full' for hours here and there (leaving on for longer periods on a 'constant' or regulated temperature. Same with the water.
Does anyone have any comments/thoughts on this? Do you do it yourself and how does it work out?
