    Hi

Need to heat the main room in a crappy damp apartment where the storage heaters are bust, no Gas or oil available.

Looking for options, its a massive room/kitchen area with full height glazing on 2 walls.

Will an electric fire offer decent heat?
    Are they expensive to run?
Any recommendations on make/model/KW rating that is should be looking out for?
Lastly can they simply be plugged into the wall or do they need a dedicated supply.

    Any recommendations appreciated.

Based in Dublin city centre if anyone ahs any tips on suppliers/fitters.

    Thanks in advance.

    Eoin

My father uses one of these for a "blast" of heat in the kitchen of his old farm house. Great for quick fast heat. They are expensive to run but he doesnt ever only leave it on for a half hour at a time as it would get too hot.

Per kWhr of heat delivered, all electric heating appliances, apart from storage heaters, cost the same to run.

For a plug in 13A heater, the biggest you can get will be about 2.5 or possibly 3kW. the vast majority are 2kW. Be careful leaving such things plugged in . The plugs often get hot. In my opinion they are grand for a quick blast of heat but they are not safe for long term, always on useage.
