Just a quick note for anyone using Dublin at the moment, not sure if it's only for the duration of the work on the T1 departure road, the short term car park is allowing up to 15 minutes free parking without having to validate the ticket, which is a HUGE help with collecting passengers.

I'd like to hope that maybe the DAA would consider making this a permanent feature, given how hard they make it to do a pick up and go in any other area of the airport. Yes, I know there are problems with people parking in pick up and go areas, (the departure road is often half full of parked taxis that are presumably doing specific collects) but some sort of easy facility to be able to pick up (for example) elderly passengers who are not as such disabled, so don't qualify for blue badges would make the experience so much easier. and less stressful.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

At Bristol airport they have a great facility for picking up right beside the terminal, the first 15mins is free and then it is £2 per 15mins

Actually that's changed now. Its £1 for the first 20 minutes. Charges increase after that.

Shannon is also first 15 minutes free, and it's so much simpler to get people to text when they're ready to pick up, and then do a pick up and go without stopping the engine even, much less hassle, if the airport is geared up for it to work, but unfortunately, Dublin is very car unfriendly most of the time. The T1 drop off zone is an accident waiting to happen, and there's no equivalent facility for collecting, unless you ignore the "no pick up" notices on the departure road.

I know the Bristol system well, it was my local airport for a number of years, and we still use it occasionally if we're visiting family, and it's a good facility, and works well. A similar facility at Dublin would be a very welcome improvement in the quality of the service, but DAA are not known for being responsive to this sort of request.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I recall DUB T1 Short-term Carpark use to offer the first 15 mins free for many years. If memory serves me correctly, they stopped the practice in the mid to late '90's.

I'll still be doing the old reliable, wait at the mound for a phone call and meet them at departures :)
But handy to have that free 15 mins In case you need to run in for whatever reason. And I mean run as by the time you find a spot, get in, get back out and to the barrier in 15 mins will be pushing it.

Indeed and I do too. ( wont bore you all with stories about how we used to drive up and leave the car more or less at the Collinstown Aerodrome main entrance :o )

Its 25 minutes free in Short term A & C when you validate the ticket - will continue for the foreseeable future

Interesting, it's not mentioned on the web site, unlike Shannon. That would make a lot of difference when collecting family, a lot easier than the departure road quick dash that has been the only other option.

It has literally just been extended, so I'm guessing as a result of the departure road closures.

Me too. I've been doing this for years. Works great. Having to explain to people to go downstairs from arrivals in T2 and outside was a bit awkward at first but now we're grand.

Same. Or I wait having a coffee at the garage near hangar 6. I'd rather spend the couple of Euro having a coffee than on the short term car park haha.

The Airport Police are now issuing parking tickets too for any parking offences anywhere on the airport grounds , 100 euro fixed penalty .
