Can someone inform rte and the media in general that USC is deducted from the first euro earned. Just look at the revenue web page. It is 1.5% on the first 12,012euro,and in today's budget, 1% on the first 13,000euro. The employer or revenue do not wait till you hit this earned wage (12,012euro).They deduct USC from pay week one. If at the end of the year you have not earned over 12,012euro,you must apply for a refund.

It hasn't changed to 13000, you are exempt if you earn under 13000. The 1% is still taken off the first 12012 only.

Your right,I've just said that. Try reading the post again. A lot of people do not know how much they will earn before the year end. The USC is taken from day one. You only know your exempt when the year is over.

You are wrong in your above info , because I am looking at a tax credit cert for 2015 , and it states the following :
You are deemed exempt from paying the USC for the current year , as your total income for the year has been estimated to not exceed €12,012

So it is not true to say that USC is deducted from first euro earned

It shouldnt be. If your wages dont go over €231 weekly, you wont pay USC.
