    Hi All

    Was due to get a Ford Focus today but due to advice here and reading old threads I've started to reconsider. My budget is around 6k and looking to get a reliable diesel car preferably 08 model or upwards to avail of the cheaper road tax. Have two kids so a car with decent amount of space would be ideal.

    6k will only get you the worst of examples of cars from dealers IMO.
    There is a bit of a price bubble for 08 cars because of the tax thing.

    At that level of money, I'd be looking at Hyundai i30s and Kia Ceeds.

    Diesel cars that are cheap to tax tend to cost more to buy. Getting a good 08 diesel car with cheap tax for 6k is just going to be a tall order. I'd focus more on the quality of car rather than the cheap tax. I'd rather a good 2007 with higher tax than a dog of a 08 car with low tax.
