Looking at purchasing a Turbo for the winter when conditions are too bad to cycle. No nothing about Turbos but this one caught my attention mainly because of the price. As a Boards newbie I cannot post a link but its an Elite Volare Mag Force Elastogel Turbo Trainer. Reduced from 250 to 122 on Chain Reaction. Just wondering if any Boardsies are using one of these or can recommend something in the 150 price range. I am aware that I will need to purchase a wheel & tyre as well.

Don't have the trainer, but you don't need to buy a wheel and tyre. There are nice to have to not necessary.

Lots of people talk about shredding the tyres etc but I have never had an issue. In terms of the trainer itself, think about how much you are actually going to use it and what you are using it for.

If it is simply to get some time in when the weather is too bad than it will be more than enough (as will others in that price range). Sure it won't have the bells and whistles that others have but do you really need all that stuff. Variable resistance, power reading, link to the computer? Again, all nice to have but it will have some resistance and stick it in the top gear and use cadence drills rather than power drills.

Get yourself some decent training plans to keep the boredom away, make sure you have TV/music and then get on and pedal. Think of it this way. Without it, if the weather is bad, you would get nothing done, so whatever you get is a bonus.

I've deleted a few posts. Please use the Cycling Adverts sub forum (which has a set of dedicated rules) if you wish to sell anything on here

    Thanks

    Sorry.

On Trainers - one with a gel roller negates the need for a second tyre.

Fluids last and are much quieter than mag and fan.

They will burn the hand off you though if u grab the ball of the roller after us :) I've learnt that the hard way! :D

Ya but they are very quite compared to the other jet planes.
