Hi a few months ago a women hit my dog. I know that I was liable and I was waiting for her to get back to me . During the week I got a letter off her insurance company to that stated without prejudice and to ring them and accept responsibility. I've no problem in accepting and paying but just wondering can I pay her insurance in instalments or has it to be a lump sum as I'm barly getting by as it is so couldn't afford lump sum. Any info

Do you have house insurance? The personal liability section usually includes domestic pets and would cover your outlay

Why you accepting? Did they give you a figure?
It might be worth talking to a solicitor.

A woman hit your dog and you're liable????? How does that work.

A driver should be in control of a car to the point they can stop suddenly if needed.

Personally I would not accept any liability.

Insurance companies are out for one thing and one thing only - to screw people (to make a profit)

You are responsible for your animals if they are loose on the public highway

Ask them when you ring. They will tell you how the process goes.
As said above, do talk to a solicitor yourself.

A dog is supposed to be under control on a lead. Why should the owner of the car or insurer pay for someone elses mistake.

I am afraid you are very wide of many marks there. A dog owner is legally liable for the actions of the dog.

As said above house insurance is the way to go if you have it. Father hit a dog a good few years back that pulled the lead out of its owners hand and came right out of a garden into the road in darkness. Killed the poor dog too but being a Labrador it did a bit of damage. Repair bill was over a grand so he had to go claim from the owner (she wasn't happy). Anyway as far as I know her insurance paid up.

Emergency braking for a dog isn't always the wise move if it causes another accident you'll be liable. I know there is a lot of love for dogs but their no child where you take every measure to avoid impact
