Maybe it's glitchy , in that box in the top left had corner it should say cameras , if it's there scroll through them , after that go to the settings option in that black block and see if there is any other problems .

I've checked every setting in the black area, and no luck, no matter what i change the camera option stays greyed out. I've tried now 2 evenings in a row, and both times after recording a clip, and entering the editor, i get the same greyed out camera section. idk whats up, googling the problem gives no hits.

After you record a clip do you "add clip" in editor and press X (ps4) to edit clip ? If you've done that and you're still getting a blank I'm out of ideas .

Yes, i add clip and then edit it (the screenshot is from the edit stage). The camera is always greyed out. Must be glitched or something. idk.

I think the camera option depends on what mode you record in as in are you in first person or third person.
I was fiddling around with the editor the other day and there was a message saying that the camera option is only available if it is recorded in a specific way, i dont remember it exactly as I just ignored it

I filmed everything in first person view.

I tried using the editor just now, its a bit fiddly to get used to.

I filmed everything in first person view.

If you film in first-person then you can't do anything with the camera. You have to film in 3rd person to change camera angles.

It's because when you go into first-person you character actually looks pretty stupid doing the first-person animations.

I've made plenty of mistakes like that where I'd be recording in third-person but when I'd hop into a car I'd have forgotten to have changed out of first-person view before hand............which would then render the clip useless to me because no camera changes could be made.

I was expecting a lot more from the Editor.
I thought I could select characters and assign them a role like get one to fight another but I cant seem to do that so I cant create what I wanted to create :/

The Director mode is pretty rubbish and has all sorts of silly limitations.

I'm on the PC so I have to use mods and trainers to spawn other NPCs and get them to do things.

Riddle me this - can you use PS4 captured video in the R* Editor (using the Share feature), or is it solely stuff that was recorded through the editor/within the game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,248 ✭✭✭Max Mafioso

Stuff that was recorded through the game, you cant edit stuff you had shared/captured previously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 957 ✭✭✭TacoMan

Noooooooo! I have hours* of muggings captured through the PS4 menu. I guess I'll have to fire up the old Windows Movie Maker so.

I changed the name of the thread, might as well use this for all editor related discussion.

I wouldn't mind recreating a movie scene or two with a few of ye in gta online... looking at you Kesh for ideas :pac:

I was messing with the editor earlier, trying to get used to camera angles etc.
Its a bit fiddly to get it right.

    My practice vid:

    The Shadfather?

A chase on foot across a building site then up a crane, a la Casino Royale, bit of a scuffle up there making sure nobody falls off, the 'perpetrator' runs off and parachutes away to a waiting vehicle, with accomplice who will drive. Chaser follows and his buddy picks him up and they follow. A chase then ensues along the streets of LS, flare goes up from the chasers and all of a sudden a helichopper appears out of nowhere to help chase. Some accident befalls the helichopper, perhaps smashing into a bridge? The chase continues.....

.....someone else can take it from there!

    Giddup.

Sounds good , I wonder is there a way of sharing clips , I doubt there is , say somebody does the first part with there own twist to it , then the next scene someone does there bit , stick it all on a timeline and finish it as the one project .

What if you upload it to youtube and send the link to someone then edit it in moviemaker all as one movie?

True enough , but would it be worth the hassle, Maybe if it was the best idea in the history of ideas and everything worked out perfectly, maybe then.

Was wondering the same Kesh. If you could cut from the viewpoint of one player to another it'd be class. Maybe Max is on to something there. If anyone needs a hand doing videos, let me know. I probably will never make one myself, but as long as I get a credit in a film that's good enough! :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,248 ✭✭✭Max Mafioso

I used to edit videos and make DVD menu's for them for the family videos :D
I could lend a hand if I am available and people dont mind waiting 2 years for the final product ;)

I would have given it a go tonight but won't be around , might be home about 12/1am , only thing is my own pair of cameras might be goosed and I'd be good for nothing , but when it's a go ahead I'll let ya know , probably over the weekend, and it's open to anyone who wants to take part, if somebody wants to record things from their point of view and edit that's no problem or if someone wanted to be an "actor" and not do jack sh1t else that wouldn't be a problem either.

i think to make a great clip it's all about the storyline , that's why movies are handy if you're stuck , plus you've something to compare it too as well ,

So what you have to think is , are the right clothes there to match the movie ?

For example "oh let's do batman" and ya end up going around like a pr1ck in a black suit and sunglasses,

Is the location the same/similar , can I create a death match to use props in the clip, trees , car wrecks , etc .

So once it's a good idea the rest will follow. That's my 2cents anyway.

Wow that editor is complicated! Tried making a vid of the truck chase but couldn't figure the yoke out at all.

It is a bit finicky at first but it's pretty decent when you get to grips with it and learn how to do panning shots, etc. I treat the R* Editor as something to create a rough cut and then use an external editor like Vegas to tighten it up and add layers.

Not everyone can do that if they don't have an external editor but you can still make a good quality video using the in-game editor.

A good way to learn the editor, I find, is to record yourself doing a killing spree somewhere busy like at a junction. A lot of things happen around you that you won't see while recording but will pick up in editing and allow you to try various things with the camera. It will take you a few goes and videos to learn things, I'm still learning new stuff with each video as I go along :pac:

I did this video all in-game (external editor was used just to add music) to teach myself and show how just trying anything can make standard footage look different.

If you guys wanted help or someone to edit that movie ye want to film in an external editor I'd gladly help, be a good challenge to work with someone else's footage :)

Man that was brilliant! Well done!! Excellent to se how normal the gameplay looks and then what you can pick up in the editor.

    Thanks!

It was funny, at the time the original was amongst the first few batch of videos showing what the editor could do and I got so much hate-mail from people saying I made a disgusting video, I should remove it and that upon the next mass-shooting my video will be responsible :pac:
