These ones are pretty damn good- http://www.amazon.com/ThruNite%C2%AE-TN12-EDC-LED-Flashlight/dp/B00XMP3POS

I lost mine up in the attic though, I left it down and can't find it now so I need to get a new one.

Save your cash and just get one of those cheap ones that have a magnifying/zoom option on the end.
They run on one single AA, but the option of a focused beam means much greater distances if needed.
Got x4 with change back from a 20note for some 2700mha rechargeable batteries. Fits in the pocket.

Got a cheetah head torch, rechargeable comes with lead fir socket and car. 45 in coop but a super job easily see cattle across a 10 acre field, like a spot light. Lasts a while without charging

You know what you need to find it............A GOOD TORCH!

Had various ones over the years but the best one I found was the cluson head torch. Rechargeable, serious light out of them and no problem getting parts. Glanbia had them last year

Got one in Argos a few year ago, rechargeable, 2 settings, heads & dips (we call them), as good as car lights, great on a dark night looking at sheep, can do hedge to hedge. Think it was €80.
If on dips I can get 1-2 weeks on a charge, (30-40 min/night)

It has a stainless steel clip so one of those telescopic magnet things (got mine in Lidl) would find. Mines great for finding sockets that I've dropped in the straw:o.

Without a doubt! Go for the Red or blue one. The green one hasn't enough power

OP is it a long narrow field?:D

Seriously though, I got a LED head torch with an adjustable lens in either Lidl or Aldi for a tenner and it's fairly good for the size of it.

Have two Nightsearcher Explorer rechargeable lights. Good light when checking around the fields at night for a cow calving etc and can strap onto the underside of the s/s if foxy loxy is about. They were about €80 each. We have them for 4 years and they have not given any trouble.
A friend has a Megazoom and it is a serious bit of kit.

I have a fenix flashlight, more pricey than led lender iirc but better by all accounts I wouldn't be without it now, about £50 ish but a great piece of kit four different brightness settings too.

No need for a flashlight if you get out of bed early in the morning.

The most of the country would have the electricity in the sheds now. You need to seriously improve your farm if your depending on flashlights to calf cows.

Will have all bar a few of autumn calvers here calving outside, as with the late spring ones, much easier on the cow. Not to mention those working may have to check stock in darkness

I got a Coast HP314 Focusing LED Torch bought to me for my birthday back in March, serious bit of kit used rescue and law enforcement all over the world, can easily light up to 600 meters. Has taken some hefty falls even tramped on by cows, still good as new. Seems to have serious battery life think I have charged the batteries three times since March and it gets it's fair bit of use. Also be a great tool if you met some who shouldn't be on your property at night.

Has the Electricity Board reached your part of the country yet wink.png
All codding aside, my preference was always to calf autumn/spring and even winter calvers outdoors in a paddock beside the yard, weather permitting. If things ain't going well you could always move them indoors.

Unlike a previous poster, would recommend Led Lenser over Fenix any time. The only torches that ever gave me hassle were Fenix.

The Led Lenser X7R is a great torch, and it's magnetic charger bracket is the best I have seen, it hangs and charges from it's "perch" so always ready to go.
I think they are about £120 sterling.Another plus compared with some other Led Lenser's is that it's a standard single 18650 battery which you can replace for about a tenner, when it dies in a few years.

Fenix Rc40 hand torch better than car on full beam serious torch but pricey at 345 euro but worth it in my opinion...

Serious piece of gear and not bad for the price either.
