My daughter needs a driving licence for her new job but does not need to own a car. It's for when she's overseas etc. She needs to take driving lessons to prepare for driving test,
We have been talking about the high cost of insurance for a first time driver and it occured to me she might be able to drive the driving instructors car on a provisional licence while taking lessons with hom and then take the test in his car. She could then get a driving licence without the cost and bother of owning a car.
Any opinions, knowledge or experience of this appreciated.

Most offer this service AFAIK. Edit:- I did the test in my instructors car as my car was an Auto.

I think most instructers allow the use of his/her car for the driving test. Usally costs around the same cost as a driving lesson to use. Just discuss it with the instructor.

Yup most should allow it, I took my test in the instructors car as I was more used of it than the family car. I'd recommend her to ask around about lessons and see if she can do a deal on a set number of lessons and using the same car in a test. I had to pay for using the car in the test though I think it was less than the actual lesson price as obv he wasn't doing anything during that time.

It's how I did mine too. He picked me up from the house, I / we drove to the test centre where he got out and I did the test.
Think that it took about an hour in total, so that's what he charged.

Does your daughter have access to a car to do practice driving in?

Your daughter can definitely do her lessons in the instructors car, as well as take her test in his car, provided she is willing to pay for it. However, if she does not have a car to practice her driving in between lessons, the odds of her passing her test at the first go, aren't great.

That is not to say that no one ever passes their test, if all they ever do is lessons, but they would be in the minority. You don't give any indication in your post if you have a car, and if your daughter would be able to go on your policy (as a learner) in your car, to practice her driving in. If she did, the odds of her passing her test, would be greatly enhanced.

A good instructor should have no problem getting your daughter to pass her test with lessons only.

I did my test and passed with only instructor lessons, I did a lesson before the test and paid the price of a lesson for the use of his car, this was in the UK.
Less chance of you picking up bad habits and you only have to familiarise yourself with one car.
