I wonder how the prices compare to other companys, my insurance is up the end of the month but its dropped half the price it was last year with 123

Dunno, it's a new venture and I'd guess they want new customers.
    Call em and tell us.

they wont give me an online quote!! ive always drove a 2.2 and because of my age find it hard to get insurance thats not crazy expensive.

It has dropped? i thought all insurance prices had rocketed?

I'd always be suspicious of anything that offers a discount off a figure nobody knows to pretty much everybody

tried a quote there, double what im paying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Did a quote for the laugh. Even with 10% discount, it's €105 more than I'm paying with AIG themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,327 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

10% off, 2 months free - these sort of discounts are completely meaningless in relation to insurance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭Marhay70

There's no logic to car insurance. I got a quote from Hibernian a few years ago which I thought was high.
I eventually went through a broker for half that price and when the policy documents arrived, the policy was with Hibernian.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

I got a quote from supervalu at the beginning of September. They were cheaper by about €40 but the monthly payment is cheaper with my current insurer.

yes im shocked too! last year i paid roughly €1300 for a 05 2.2 accord, I had 5 years no claims bonus, this year they quoted me €680 for a 2011 2.2 accord the only difference i can see now is i now have 6 years no claims. The newer car is worth €20000 more than what i had last year so i taught this would put my policy up.

They are simply marketing gimmicks eg. 75 per cent No Claims Discount!!!!

Would not provide a quote on a mighty powerful 1.2 Nissan Micra Automatic.

31 Years old. 2 years NCB, Kildare.

I guess I am too risky in the wifes micra !! ROFL.

This is cos some insurance companies won`t insure the car if it is over 10 years old. There would be less companies insuring older cars and they can increase the price for insurance.

The automatic Nissan Micra is only available brand new in Japan. Your wife's car is an import and that's probably why

€920 (or €820 if I download the app and have them play big brother on me) for a 1.75L Diesel 2010 Mondeo, 9 years no claims bonus, no penalty points, no medical history, not ás much as a speeding fine since a started learning 10 years ago, I'm 27,

My current price with Aviva is ~450

    Are these guys for real?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭shot2go

the 2005 car would only be 10 years this year, i have a 2011 now. unless having the extra year no claims makes a huge difference ? I always go fully comp too with breakdown and key cover.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭delahuntv

Insurance depends on many variables - and insurance companies need a representative sample of the market.

If they have too many 27year old males, the price will rise.

Almost works the way a bookie does his odds.

I'm with aig, 2012 2l value 30k, commercial driving (80k km / year), no claims in 30 years, only caught once for speed. Insurance was €480!

I'm old enough to remember £2200 (about 6k in today's money) - same time a 3 bed house in Blackrock rented for £300 a month.

Was it only the 1.5 auto available here? Could have sworn my mums was a 1.2 k12 bought new here.

The newer the car the less likely of a fault its all probability and statistics older cars more likely to be in a collision than a new one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

No quote for me - possibly because it's a 3L. I'm probably not doing myself any favours, but I can't be arsed following up with any these companies who tell me to ring them for a quote.

I doubt it. I just got a quote of 720 euro fully comp, for a 2L jap honda integra Dc5. 7 years ncb and they (along with aig) were the only ones to give me a quote.

Are people really expecting to get a cheap quote from Super Valu?

    Its Super Valu ffs.

I garauntee they have their target market and it isn't your common or garden driver.

Its the 55 year old housewife driving a Yaris or people with a similar age profile, ie, people that would do their weekly shopping in Super Valu.

It sure is. But any other place will insure it for between 400-500 quid. Including AIG themselves.

Supervalu should stick to selling groceries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,639 ✭✭✭worded

Less insurance companies insuring older cars - how old is too old? 10 years + 15 years + ?

I'm 26, have a 2.5 liter RWD convertible Z4 so not exactly common driver id imagine and got a quite 500 euro cheaper then my current insurer Allianz, so they're not that bad!!

Tried for the laugh.. unable to quote

    40 years old driving a 05 3.0 TDI A6 with full NCD.

    Nevermind!

This is why I use a broker, tried the ringing around before and one crowd quoted €695,nearly double what my broker got me.
Insurance quotes are rising due to Quinn,Setanta and huge payouts for what we'd consider minor injuries.

Who trolls the bargain alerts section? I paid 1222 with allianz, the super valu quote was 790 TPTF and 873 FC as per the attachment. Maybe this is not an exact like for like policy given I didn't look at the add ons but it's very close and significantly cheaper. I wouldn't write them off (insurance pun intended) just because of the brand is all I'm saying!

€870 quote. My insurance a few months ago was €420.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,153 ✭✭✭✭dodzy

€821 quote. Paying €431 with Allianz. Good night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭bailey99

28% dearer than my insurance policy from a couple of weeks ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭Furzy

Similar quote to AA (€660) - 10% dearer than my current insurer but only because I fought hard to get their initial quote of €720 down. Got a quote of €460 from 123.ie.

That is because brokers know how to fiddle the details to get you a lower quote. Also worth remembering quotes differ on a daily basis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,637 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

they are even dearer than my current crowd and nowhere close to the quote from the AA this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,032 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Your own personal insurance aspects have changed yes.

But you also need to keep in mind that insurance companies are constantly reviewing their ratings, and this gets regularly adjusted up/down as appropriate. It's a complex business, believe me ; )
