Clutch problem - Hyundai Santa Fe

    Hi
I had clutch replaced in my Santa Fe 2 years ago in a main dealer.
Car had a fuel filter warning light on, so I brought it in for a check-up. Now 30,000 miles later, I've been told that the clutch needs replacing again, which will be approx 500 euro. Original work only carries a 1 year warranty.
I'm rather disappointed, as in other cars I've had driven over 20 years, never had to replace a clutch.
Anyone got any views on how long the clutch should last?

Impossible to say really, a lot depends on driving style and don't forget that 20yrs ago most cars didn't make anywhere near what modern cars do in terms of torque and power.
Are you city driving? Towing etc?

There is no set interval for the life of a clutch. It's a wear and tear item that's life can be dependent on the quality of the component parts and/or how the driver treats it.

I drive mostly in Dublin traffic and have only towed a small trailer, for about total 30 miles. I don't think my driving style is anyway hard; I use wife's car regularly and there's no issue with that car.
I know a clutch is a replaceable part, but to have to replace the clutch every 2 years for 500 euro is bad value, or the job was done badly or with cheap parts. Not what I had expected in a main dealer.

Curious, why would clutch depressed at lights matter? All I've ever heard is that clutch fully in or out will not wear it in any way, it's the period in between that only causes wear?

Hyundai clutches in old models wore out easy at your mistake was to go to a main dealer he probably put same type back in. Not much to say go to a non main dealer he'll put a non Hyundai one in and you'll be good till she dies from summat else At least that's the story with my sonata running good with 300k on clock. My ex had same issue with Santa Fe and chap at work also

depends on what car driven as some use plastic short life clutch release bearings which overheat easily,at least jap cars use
a better metal bearing.it does seem to be a short life you had.

I doubt it was a genuine clutch kit if you got it fitted in a main dealer for that price.

What model santa fe is it? On some of the mk1's, the high pressure fuel pump was known to leak in such a way that diesel got into the gearbox bell housing and contaminated the clutch. Worth checking out if yours is a mk1. But i'm sure a main dealer mechanic would have spotted that.

We got nearly 7 years out of our 2008 Santa Fe clutch before replacing it in 2014 with 170k on the clock. Apparently the foot well is an 'unusual' fit for non standard mats & can cause the mat to ruck up behind the pedal causing excessive wear, not sure how true that is as we always had the fitted mats.
