When the fear came, it was dark, intense and cold. Despite my bravado I shrank beneath its touch, willing that I would be braver. Like heroes in fables, who steadied their stance and puffed their chests with brazen chins stuck out against the icy breeze. But I was just man and death had an immortal hold over me, over everyone. No, I would not "go gentle into that good night." I would cower and fear in the same way as every intelligent man would, and pray that death could not see me hiding in its shadows today.
