Question about No Claims Bonus Statement

Myself and my husband have been driving 10+ years each with no claims made against us in that time. Our insurance with One Direct is due for renewal and had gone up over €100. I went on One Direct website and got a better quote with extra benefits so my husband rang them the other day. The said the original quote was with Aviva, the new one is with AIG , would we like to proceed, we said yes. They asked the usual questions and we said according to our NCB statement we represent stage 5* on the discount scale.

So this morning the new info arrives in the post stating 6 years NCB but when I looked at the statement again underneath the 5* it says actual number of years claims free on this policy is 2**.

This will obviously affect the new quote but how can we be insured for over 10 years, never make a claim , be stage 5 on the scale but only have 2 years NCB ?

    No idea. Ask the insurer.

Possibly because your policy with oneDirect has only covered the previous 2 years of your NCB, and your other years were accrued with a previous insurer?

We've always been with One Direct, they could have previously used other companies for us.

    No idea. Ask the insurer.

I will do, I'm in work at the moment so can't ring yet so was just looking for some info in the meantime. Thanks

Any windscreen claims? That might be why your NCD is showing the full % discount but years insured don't match as there has been a claim but it hasn't affected your bonus.
It shouldn't have any bearing on a quote from another insurer as the bonus still shows the number of years represented by the no claims discount.

You're on the max scale with your current insurer, but only with that one for 2 years. As you say you've been with One Direct all the time, they will have the trail of previous NCB statements to allow you use full benefit elsewhere. One Direct are the broker/agent, not the insurance company

Dont worry, as said you have only 2 years with Aviva through one direct and all the other year through who ever else one direct used, it is confusing, even more so when they want your original NCB cert, I just photo copy everything for my own records. So the long and short of it is you still have all your NCB you have acquired, Have another look at your NCB cert, it should say something like previous discounts level 6 or some other silly talk, thats the way my current axa one is.

    Thanks all,

It was too late to ring this evening, I'll send in the cert I have and contact One Direct if it's not enough.

    Appreciate the replies, thanks again.
