Actually other way around; UPC bought Virgin Media and that was over 6 months ago, all they are doing now is rebranding it.

Well if all they adopt from the re-brand is the name and technology they are using then we are on easy street. They are releasing a new router soon and I hope in the future they replace horizon with tivo (they said they are not gonna do this but who knows what the future holds).

Upc 's technology is superior to virgins as it's newer. Tivo has been confirmed as not on the road map as it's effectively end of life in 2018. What the merger will bring is virgins huge content buying power.

I meant the technology in the home. Not their backbone.

UPC has been lacking for a very long time with their routers.

It's really too bad about tivo though.

Don't expect Tivo. That's not going to happen. The Horizon box will be rebranded later with a Virgin Media-ised UI. There's a new modem rolling out which sounds like it'll be pretty decent. Beyond that there'll likely be content changes in time for the better but that's all there is right now.
