    Hi guys,

Totally new to the satellite scene. I want to pick up belgian telesat (we have a subscription at our residence in Belgium) and british freesat. Im sure you guys know this but the required satellites would be at 13E, 19.2E, 28.2E.

The signal will be sent to 1 tuner (htpc) with no other tv in house.

    Now based on my reading I would need;

    Approx 1m sat dish+mount
Is there a big difference between a €60 metal dish and a €230 triax dish?
    • Would i get all three satellites on one dish?
    3 x LNB + mount
    1 x diseqc 3x1 smart switch
1 x diseqc enabled pci tuner with ci module
    1x cable

Is there anything i might have missed?

Thanks greasepalm, looks like a good option dish wise, wouldn't mind getting someone in to do the install

Go motorised, you will never look back

Is there not a delay between channels if i use a motor?

What do you mean by delay ?

If i switch from a channel coming from 13 degrees to a channel coming from 28, will it take a while for the channel to change?

It will take the time it takes for the motor to move the dish from one satellite to the other. Looking at the satellites you wish to receive it should take no more than a few seconds. That will happen with every motorised setup & is unavoidable unless you are taking channels from two satellites which are within a few degrees of each other in which case you can use a multi lnb setup.
I can't tell you if you can get the satellites you require from a 1mt stationary dish as I have a motorised setup myself. I'm sure someone on here will advise. It might be possible as the satellites you are trying to receive are very strong.

I have those satellites and 23.5 east on a single 90cm dish. I could have gone motorised but I had no real interest in any other satellites. If they are the only satellites you want then a single dish with 3 lnbs and a diseqc switch would be your best bet.

But then he is limiting himself to them satellites.

With a motor he is future proofed

Just bang a motor on there..... 10 years with mine & it's possibly the best piece of kit I've ever bought.

Thanks guys, honestly speaking I wont be watching the TV much this is purely for brownie points with the partner, so other satellites won't come into it as long as she is not aware of them! In any case I am sure a motor can be added later as long as the tuner card is Diseq capable? So as I am on the east cork coast, a stationary 1m dish should have no issue picking up those three sats? Any input on the difference in quality of signal between the €60 metal sats and the €230 fiberglass ones? Would I see a difference considering these sats have strong enough signals?

Which is why I put "if they are the only satellites you want"

I'd recommend the Triax TD88 with the multi-LNB attachment and 4 way DiSEqC switch.

No real need for the slower motor for the birds required.

Have you thought about a T90 Wavefrontier !?

Hi rolion, I have yes but I reckon it's tougher to set up then the t88, and no real gain in performance. From what I have read. Planning on getting t88 with inverto ultra black lnbs

There was a time I had two bits of twine out the window aligning to two different satellites. Cheapest "motor" system ever. :pac:  The tricky bit is the vertical part since they're slightly different for two satellites. I don't really recommend it as it's difficult and time-consuming, I tried to set it up again at another time and couldn't get it right.

I don't know about others experience but I have a T90 installed since more than 10 years ago, with lnb covering 40" angles.

What I found is some installers are scarred of the system and recommends something on the easy, tried & tested way. While that may work for a day, nothing been right or wrong,is not an acceptable fix for future upgraded,at least for me...

Keep in your mind that the T90 with the correct amount of right LNBs and switch is a fixed excellent performer of a motorised dish:I'm changing the satellites in miliseconds A N D always the satellite been there at that location,as time and space.

    Whichever you pick,enjoy it.

Well I reckon I can install the t88 myself while I would need an installer for the wavefrontier. 100% certain i will not be connecting to any other satellites so the benefit isn't really there imo
