Vat refund on purchase outside Ireland

I need to buy something from Germany for my business from Amazon. They don't ship it to Ireland so I have to get it shipped via parcel motel. They don't remove vat at source when I do this.
Is it a straight forward vat calculation when I am doing my vat returns or is it more complicated as it's not something bought in Ireland.
    Any help much appreciated.

Just register your vat details on amazon and it should be sorted out automatically. Under "your account" -> settings -> manage vat registration number.

If you have already paid the VAT then to reclaim it you would need to fill out an EVR form on ros.

I've already registered my vat details with them. The issue is that when trying to complete the purchase they show the vat removed but then won't ship to Ireland. When I select Parcel Motel to get it shipped that way, via Northern Ireland they don't remove the vat.

Although it might make sense to just go the EVR route. Buying from the UK Amazon with vat removed works out about the same price as buying from German Amazon with vat included.

Contact them and ask why the vat isn't being removed. EVR is a lot more hassle and will take a few weeks to process, additionally you might get asked for further documents etc.

There is a German parcel motel system. Its called mailbox.de. You could try this as your shipping address and see if it'll make any difference instead of shipping to Parcel Motel in Belfast ?

I'd think if it's shipped inside Germany then they would have to charge the vat.

So I got an email back from Amazon.

"In order for the VAT to be deducted, the shipping address has to match the billing address (address of the company).

This is a security measure to prevent unauthorised use of VAT deduction within the EU. The logic goes that if you are ordering something for your company, it is going to be delivered to the company's address and not to another address."
