I was involved in a car crash while driving a rental car in Spain, 4 years ago. I was to blame . The police attended, and took details . I never heard anything about it afterwards. The car hire company and the police had all my details . HI havent been to Spain since, but im a little concerned at the possibility that something may have occured in my absence . Has anyone got any suggestions as to how you might find out? i wouldnt want to go there again, and find myself in trouble when the police man scans my passport at the airport

I wouldn't be concerned. It was a car crash not a bank robbery. If there were any issues at the time the rental company would either have made contact or forwarded your details to the cops.

You did everything by the book so I wouldn't have any concerns, you were insured after all, they could have paid out without telling you or maybe nothing came of it. In any event don't let it worry you if you have to travel to Spain.

They would have charged the card you used as security if there was an issue. It happened to me in Australia about 10 years ago, they told me to report the incident to the police and the insurance would cover it but there was a mix up with the report and subsequently my card got charged for the damage.

oh i know theres no financial liability, im just a bit worried a minor charge could have been filed by thepolice. Not enough to chase me, but left unchallenged they could become more serious

I wouldn't imagine that the authorities have given it much taught to be honest.

The Spanish embassy might be able to help.

If you knew the Spainish Police system you would not worry . The system is all over the gaff.
Many crash events its the Police local that attend to them .Those crash reports dont exit the local police station .These are realy parking meter maid with guns and they have to call the real police to arrest you .Polica National are the blue cars and they only do the real bad car crashes where people die that are not on the motor ways. They can be mean and arrrest you if thier in bad mood . Motor way car crash events are the Guarda civil the political police and they either arrest you on the spot or they let you go .They dont do half measures .You never want to arrested by them they are your worst nightmare but rarely arrest car crash events where its only bent metal .

Chances are it the local cops who each new town hall Major changes them each election as jobs for his local heavies to run his her town with

If they were after you you would already be in spainish jail the last few year waiting for your court case where you might be found not Guilty .
Tough stuff that just do two years in jail waiting on remand as the Spainish are not big on bail for non spainish residents .

For bent metal its often not big deal in spain if no humans are hurt badly .
Like Ireland minor injuries can get well paid for in compo .

However best to not rent cars in spain in your name and passport from that time as thier insurance system might throw up something and sting your credit card for unpaid stuff .
Get a new passport with new different number and your just another Paddy Murpy

Quick Pump up the flatplanet or we will fall off the edge !!!
