    Hey guys,

Am just wondering is this fixable and how so, also can I do it myself?

The white wire from the UPC box which goes into the tv has broke off a tiny bit into the slot its supposed to go in the tv, its worked okay though since that about a week ago as I ducttaped it in etc, but now its pretty much gone as channels arent coming in with sound but with lots of fuzziness :(

Any advice about fixing it asap would be very helpful :)

Tbh Ive no idea what they are?! :o

Doesnt look like pliars will do it from me anyway, seems it broke off so a piece is left at the side of the socket it goes into, thats why the white wire wont go in , the piece is blocking it! :(

Why not take a picture of the cable and the port that it's stuck in just to avoid any ambiguity over which cable it is.

I'm not familiar with those boxes but is it not possible to just use another HDMI / Scart / whatever instead of the one that is broken.

Sounds like the coax cable is bunched - I'd say a tweezers to pull out the other bit, and then you can re strip the wire and put the clip back on it...

If the clip thing is broken you can get them from Hardware shop...

What model of TV is it? Like the actual model number, or even how new is it. If you're using the port you're describing a good bit of the picture quality you're paying for is going down the motapgorical drain.

That said, this happened to me about 10 years ago, and a dab of superglue on the end of a matchstick put CAREFULLY into the slot worked for retrieving it.

When you say "box" do you mean socket on the wall?
I'm guessing you have analogue TV?

OP says the connector has broken in "the slot its supposed to go in the tv" which to me seems to refer to a HDMI port on the TV itself but that could just be wrong terminology.

OP can you identify if it is hdmi or coaxial from this picture.

They're describing the picture as fuzzy so I doubt it was HDMI!

Slimjim, that's a coaxial digital audio port in that picture. ie. RCA/Phono. Not a coaxial cableTV/Satellite socket.

OP. Is it a round connector on the ends of that cable about the thickness of your little finger?

If so, unplug the TV and use a tweezers to pull the stuck detached connector out of the socket in the tv. Bring the cable and that connector to a tv shop like Powercity or hardware shop like woodies etc and get a cable to match. Shouldn't be more than a couple of euro.

yeah that's the coax alright. They can certainly break off. I would switch off the TV, leave it a few minutes til all the capacitors discharge, and then carefully have a go at it with small tools... tweezers, small plain screwdriver, needle nose pliers.. would be easier to work on if the TV was face down on a table, but I'm not sure if you want to do this.

I know, but it's similar enough in shape. If the op ruled out hdmi and said it's a round connector then we'd know she's referring to a coax.

I only mentioned it in case she printed off that picture and went to wooddies or Harvey Normans etc and asked for a cable to fit that. Best case she'd be handed a cheap RCA/Phono jack. worst Case she'd be sold a 24 carat gold braided super duper Digital Audio Coax by Monster cables costing €100. :D

(Btw CandyGal, that's not a dig or slag at you. I've been beside another customer talking to sales person in Currys and listened while the sales man tried to upsell him to a super high margin Rip off Monster Cables HDMI cable for €100. I shook my head at customer behind salesmanship back before he could say yes and explained to him after why a €10 HDMI cable would do the job.)
