Was stopped last week and have to produce my licence and insurance to local garda barracks. Thing is, its my last day to produce and can't find my license anywhere. I'm going to send away for a new one with change of address but itkl take awhile to arrive so what happens if I can't produce this licence today. Will I get fined?

It happened to me and I explained that I applied for a new one and produced the receipt of this with my name license number date etc and it was accepted under the terms that I produced the actually license when I got it, depends on the guard you get on the day though, you should have sorted it sooner instead of waiting the ten days.

Just so you know, it's now a driving offense not to have your license and insurance cert in the car with you. A few friends in work got a fine for it over the Christmas period, but some guards will let you away with it and ask you to bring them to your local station.
But the receipt is usually accepted

Since when? For years it has been an offence for not producing your licence on demand if driving, but when did this requirement to carry your insurance cert come in?

Does not make sense to carry the insurance docs in the car. If anything were to happen the car for example, your policy document would get destroyed.

I only carry VLC and insurance cert with me, when I drive abroad.
However even then, carrying insurance cert is not a requirement (not within EU anyway), but IMO it's highly advisable.
I can't see a point in carrying it with me, when driving in Ireland.

It's not the end of the world, you can get replacement documents for a nominal fee and your insurer would still process any claim without them.

If your old licence was the paper type, you're in for a longer delay anyway, as to get a new licence you have to go through the NDLS system to get a new plastic credit card style licence, which will also mean a visit to one of their offices to get your photo taken and processed into their system.

    https://www.ndls.ie/how-to-apply.html#where-you-are-applying-for-a-replacement-for-a-lost-stolen-or-damaged-licence-you-must-submit

The application form can be downloaded, and you'll have to get it signed at a Garda station to cover the loss of the old licence before it will be processed at the NDLS office.

You can turn up at an office, the queue at the Dublin offices tends to be between 1 Hr 30 and 2 Hrs, though the system may say that the delay is longer when you first check in.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
