I guess it's a quick way of spraying in starting fluid without having to take off the air filter etc. Good idea if you live in a cold climate!!

The owner was too cheap for an induction kit and wanted some louder intake sounds :pac:

Looking at the dust in that engine I hope not!

    Few fairly funny answers :)
No one guessed the rear purpose though.
It's a safety valve in case of LPG explosion in intake manifold.
That's the problem with second generation LPG conversion on cars with plastic intake manifold. As in that kind of LPG system, LPG is mixed with intake air with mixed on pipe between air filter and intake manifold, there is a chance that there might be LPG explosion inside intake manifold.
If manifold it made of metal, there's usually no problem with that, but in case of plastic manifold, it usually ends up cracked in bits.
This kind of a "sinkhole valve" is supposably meant to prevent from this happening :)

LPG. Jesus. I don't think that kind of McGyver-ism would pass certification. That plug comes loose and you'd have a vaporised LPG leak in the engine bay.

    Dangerous hack.

Any kind of leak within intake manifold in that kind of LPG conversion would mean LPG leak to the engine bay. Not so dangerous IMO.

There are right ways and wrong ways to do these things. Ingenuity doesn't make the use of a flipping kitchen sink drainhole and plug right. IMO or IYO doesn't matter. It's dangerous and frankly, stupid.

Well I gave it another thought.
Even if sink plug went off, LPG would still not go loose, as the speed of intake air with LPG mixture going through manifold to cylinders, would suck even more air through the hole.

It looks funny to have a sink hole, but IMO it's actually very good way to sort out the problem.
You can buy special kits which are designed to do the same thing, and will work exactly the same as this sink plug, but can't see any harm in using the the plug as it is.
    Nothing dangerous about it.
