Alternate between woods and irons

Has anyone else found it really difficult to alternate between driver/woods and hybrid/irons.

I have shot my best rounds when I stick to irons and hybrids. As soon as I attempted to bring driver or woods back into the bag my irons and hybrid shots are very inconsistent.

If I am down the range I can strike the woods well enough, it's just switching between the two I am really struggling with.

I am not a big hitter so I would like to be able to have both in the bag for a bit more off the tee.

Any advice for a high handicap would be very much appreciated.

    Yes I do.

It stems from a particular steepness in my swing.

There are so many factors at play

    Ball position
    Angle of attack
    Ground conditions
    Swing plane

So if you have a swing that suits irons only - it is far from easy to turn yourself into a great fairway wood/ Driver player.

The first thing to do is go to a pro and understand why.

But - what I have to do, to be any way competent is - in practice rounds I use the clubs that I am poor at - so use that time to improve , so it will be easier when it counts.
An issue with all parts of golf improvement is - we don't like to do the things we are bad at.

By the way the problem you speak of - is not just a high handicap issue.

Watch this clip and you can see - how a 3 wood is a different idea to an iron.
