Record one, look at another saorview channel

Using a saorview aerial ONLY are there any TVs that can record one (with USB or HDD) at the same time as looking at another saorview channel.

I am not interested in hearing about Sky+ or an extra decoder.

I was looking at a Sony TV whose spec includes a twin tuner. However the shop lad says the twin tuner refers to a satellite tuner and a terrestrial tv tuner.

I've never heard of a TV with 2 inbuilt tuners.

I saw a Samsung set advertised in Argos in mid summer with twin tuners, not sure of the model number but I think it was J64 or 6500.

Technically there's no reason why a single tuner receiver couldn't record multiple channels once they were all on the one multiplex.

It isn't usually done because of the confusion it would lead to with consumers trying to figure out why they can watch A and record B but not C and cant record A or B while watching C.

It should be possible with the likes of kodi or mythtv but it would still be better to have more than one tuner in case you want to watch or record the channels on different multiplexes.

That set is a J4100, 309 euro in Argos.

According to the Samsung website the J4100 has a single tuner

Normally Series 4 and 5 TVs don't have twin tuners, only Series 6 upwards but you're better checking before buying as it's a very handy feature

If I was doing this I'd be more inclined to look at building a media centre pc with twin tuners.

I've never heard of a TV with 2 inbuilt tuners.

JVC used to sell twin tuner Freeview (DVB-T, MPEG2) TVs with integrated HDDs some years back. But I haven't seen anything like those in recent years.

*In theory*, a TV with a terrestrial and satellite tuner could be used to watch a channel on Saorview and record a channel from Saorsat. But in reality, the firmware in most combo TVs treats the two tuners entirely separately, and only one tuner can be operated at any one time.

There have been twin tuner sets in the past but only used for picture in picture.

No idea, other than what it says in the blurb item number 391\0575

That TV is only HD Ready

I'd advise on getting a Full HD TV - 32" J5100 5 Series Flat Full HD TV
