    Hi all,

I'm looking to get a facelifted Mondeo so looking at the 2010 - 2012 age bracket with the 1.6 diesel (as I've heard the 1.8 & 2.0 give trouble) and I like the DRLS so was looking at Titanium or Titanium X but apart from the heated half leathers I can't see any difference between the 2.......or IS this the only difference?

Also is the Sony sound system that much better than what is in the Zetec model and below?

    Thanks in advance

There was no 1.8 TDCi engine available in the facelifted model. Titanium was a UK spec only afaik that replaced the old Ghia trim. We got Style, Zetec and Titanium X in those years to my knowledge. And the 2.0 TDCi is no more or no less reliable than the 1.6 TDCi. They are both revised PSA engines.

The Sony stereo has more features, more speakers, advanced bluetooth with music streaming and voice activation to my knowledge. Don't think the lesser models with the standard stereo have anything more than basic bluetooth call receive/making.

    Thanks Bazz,

Was driving my sisters 2012 1.6TDCI Zetec Mondeo all day and I have to say it is lovely, if lacking in power a bit! May go for the 2.0 and sacrifice a few MPG if I was to get one

Big decision between this and a 2.0Tdi Skoda Superb Elegance!

The 1.6 TDCI if anything is less reliable than the 2.0 litre unit. Those PSA engines are notorious for giving turbo trouble if the oil isn't changed at the exact second it is required to be (which is every year or 12,000 miles from memory) and also if you don't use the correct oil.

The 2.0 is less prone to turbo trouble AFAIK. Having driven the Mondeo, it really, really, needs the 2.0. There are no issues with the 1.8 TDCI but it is meant to be a complete dog to drive.

The 1.6 TDCi engine was overhauled in 2010, gained 5bhp more and doesn't suffer the same amount of turbo failures as the older unit. The 1.8 TDCi has a wet belt setup which is known to snap well before the official Ford change interval, it is also an expensive job to replace the belt at circa €800 to €1000. They also have a tendency to go through flywheels a bit faster than other modern diesel cars. Anyway the 1.8 TDCi was dropped from the facelifted Mondeo.
