Windows 8 startup problem

    Hi
    So here's my problem: when I switch on my laptop (dell inspiron 15, acquired in April), the Dell logo appears and then I get a black screen with a movable mouse cursor. It just won't load the windows login page. I've tried the following:
    - let it sit for an hour; laptop just goes into sleep mode
    - forcefully switch off/on
    - ctrl+alt+del
    - shift+f8
    - windows key on keyboard+C

    Nothing works!! I've called Dell but of course, they can't do anything till Monday..Laptop is still in warranty but I'm just wondering if this has happened to other people and if they were able to fix it.
    Extreme nuisance for a six months old laptop
