Hi,I just bought a car few days ago and i'm looking for an insurance who will accept me !
I have a German full driving license for almost 10 years and was driving as a named driver on my mother insurance in Germany .
I tried few company like AXA but they don't want as the car is from 2000.

Do you know any insurance who will insure me not for a crazy amount of money?
    thanks

Is there actually such thing as "named drivers" on German policies?
Were you listed on a policy as person allowed to drive a car?
I thought policies issued in Germany are just all open drive, meaning anyone can drive a vehicle.

Basically you have no NCB at all so all you can do is call around to everyone to get best price.

Hi CiniO maybe you're right but I am quite sure I have been named in my mother's insurance at least in the beginning; later she changed it to an open drive. But still many companies just rejected to quote us because the car is quite old and I don't have any proof of driving experience here in Ireland. It must be possible though to get insured, I mean I am German ok but I am nonetheless able to drive... and the car is old but in good condition; just passed NCT last month. There are older cars on the road and in far worse condition I'd say...
Do you have an advise for me regarding a specific company or do you think it might be an advantage to apply for an Irish license?
    cheers

I'd say if you didn't have a policy in your own name in Germany, then your mother policy won't matter here at all.
You will just have to bite the bullet, and get a policy with 0 NCB.
Should not be a problem to obtain one, considering you hold your licence for 10 years.
Hence some insurers are not insterested in insuring older cars, so just try as many as you can.
Or visit a broker who might be able to find a good offer for you.

Nein ... the norm is only the named driver by default.
