Registration system did not register tenant. Now conservation grant is refused.

I went through your landlord registration system on 29/04/15 to register my tenant for your billing system.

This was with the cooperation of my tenant who supplied all required contact information.

Despite this, the next bill still arrived at my address, and you appear to have no record of my tenant's registration.

Now I am told the the  registration is not on time, and the tenant is not in fact on your system.

At no point was I told that this method of registration would prevent my tenant from availing of the conservation grant.

I have been on to Irish Water twice and have met with no satisfaction.

Can my tenant now avail of the grant?
We followed the instructions on your registration website.

    Hi Walo99,

    Thank you for your query.

When a landlord registers a tenant, the only information Irish Water would take is the name of the tenant and address of the property. We would then issue a letter inviting the tenant to register their details to ensure accurate billing.

We can look into this matter. Would you mind sending the following details via PM:

    - Your Name;
    - Address in question; and
    - Contact Number.

    Thanks in advance,
    Niall

    Hi Niall,
I was told that by Irish Water that there were NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE. If you missed the June 30th registration deadline for no matter what reason... I was told if your name is not on the list by 30th June there is no way on this earth you are going to get the grant this year.
So why can Irish Water now seem to be able to help out a landlord who is claiming they registered their tenant on time?
This would indicate that there are exceptions to the rule. Is this the case?

    thanks,
    Sadie

Whey makes you think that they're making exceptions? They've offered to look at the details of the case and confirmed that they received a PM, the exact same thing happens on pretty much every thread in this forum.

    Hi TheChizler,

I am referring to the OP's posting about the landlord saying he registered his tenants. But his tenants didn't get the letter and missed the deadline. My relative had a similar situation. The Irish Water respondent said if the OP pm'd him his name and address he would check it out for him...

It may be that the OP did register, but the letters were misdirected or the tenant mislaid them or that action was needed by the tenant, but not done.

The deadline extension is for applying for the grant, not for registering with Irish Water. Not everyone received their letter with the Transaction Identification Number, some because of the An Post issues, some otherwise.

  • It looks to me that the landlord registration was just a phishing exercise to get tenant details.
I did the registration with the cooperation of my tenant, with the understanding that the registration process was complete.
I am now feeling very let down by IW. It is no way to treat people who engaged with the registration process. IW will now have two more unhappy clients - well done
