    Hi all,

I'm sure you get clueless people like me on here all the time but I'm hoping someone (or two) might have the patience to deal with my query anyway!!
I'm hoping to get my OH a Tag Heuer watch and I really know little or nothing about them but I know it's something he's always wanted...

I would ideally like to spend less than €1500. Where is the best place to buy them and are they actually worth the money? If they're not worth the cash, any alternative brands you'd suggest??

    THanks

By the way, I will not be travelling myself but know a number of people who travel with work so would be able to have a look in airport shops in a variety of countries if that's any good....

    Hi Laura,

Firstly most of the guys that post in here dream of girls like you... We normally have to hide our watch purchases from our wives and girlfriends. Kudos!

To answer your question. You will certainly get a TH for less than €1500, in fact the Formula 1 range comes in around the €750-1050 sort of price range. Do you know what style of TH watch he likes as there are many different ones.

Sometimes the guys on here will suggest other brands other than TH as you are to a certain degree paying for the name in ratio to quality but I love them and always have.

    Thanks!!
He likes silver chain link strap or black leather strap. I don't want to get anything that's likely to go 'out of fashion' (what does that even mean? I'm not sure!!!). I'd rather stick with something relatively classic...

When you say chain link did he use those words or are you describing a silver bracelet yourself. The reason I ask is TH do a range called "link" which he may have referred too. It's history and fame came from the link bracelet being different at the time to standard bracelets. See here.

Your best bet is to go through that site and get an idea or pop into any fields jewellers and get an idea or style and price. I say field because they have loads of stores but you may find a more specialist dealer near you depending on location.

Hey Laura hope you don't mind me jumping in but I'm wondering the same thing only for the other sex, kinda settled on the tag model I'm getting but just don't know where to buy, this website http://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk/watches/tag_heuer seems to be the cheapest but would prefer to buy in a shop here if wasn't much in it...looking for basically the same advice.

Tag Heuer never go out of fashion as such
some models hold value really well like the first edition formula one which now sells second hand for more than the original price.
the models really vary and it depends on his build ect too
personally i like the big formula ones and aquaracer chronograph type
he might prefer the dress style of the link model which comes in a mid size and full size

does it have to be new ? you can pick up some bargains online where someone buys on impulse and changes there mind a few months later

the new style aquaracer's are very nice

i would say to stay away from gold plated ones and models on a strap as these can wear and could affect the value should he decide to trade up at a later date

Hi Laura, sent you a PM about my TH Link Calibre 6 I have on adverts. It might be something to consider

Thank you so much, you have all really helped!! I'll definitely considered second hand but am also looking at those Aquaracer's as well. Still have a while before I actually want to get it so have plenty of time to deliberate ;-)

Maybe I'm way off the mark / going against the grain here, but if it's something he's always wanted then he may well have one particular model he wants. Unless you're sure he hasn't his eye on anything particular, I'd be inclined to ask him.

No, I know he doesn't have one picked out! It's just something he remarks on at times looking in shop windows or if he comes across someone wearing one. I think I'm fairly safe...
    Fair point though, thanks!

In that case, carry on! Lucky guy :D

Op, it had a TH (kirium) on my wrist for 14 years, I've given it dogs abuse and it's still as good today as the day I bought it, and I regularly get comments on it. I bought my wife a TH during the summer in New York, even though the exchange rate isn't great, Macy's 25% off made it about €900 cheaper than here.

If it was me, I would prefer the cash and go and buy my own watch!
Not that rose mantic I know, but watches are such a personal choice. No matter how well you know someone you are still highly unlikely to get the watch they want. My taste in watches also changes regularly and I have been known to sell a watch that I loved a few months previously. Watches are a peculiarly male pathology. Just give him the cash. He won't love you any less for that!:)

I found most of their automatic watches to be above the budget of the OP. Worth checking out in case she is looking to get him an automatic or not

Know of a lovely Tudor GranTour for sale and with a boadries deal...you would be close to buying it...:P

    Consider second hand.

There are plenty for sale on here ( lex tag Heuer is prob the nicest version IMO, or DT Tudor). Buying second hand means you get a 2.5 -3 k watch for half price.

If he doesn't like he can sell for much the same price and buy a different one!
