    Hi All,

Just put the car through NCT yesterday only thing that failed was the front wheel allignment.

The car is a Skoda Fabia.

One garage gave me a quote of €45 but other people are telling me it should only cost around €30/35 as its usually priced around €60 for both front and back.

Does anyone know roughly how much this would cost or anywhere in the Dublin 9 area that would have reasonable prices?

From my experience it's €30 for front wheel alignment and €50 for 4 wheel alignment.

Yours is in between so I would ask the garage if they are doing 2 wheel or 4 wheel alignment.

If it's 2 wheel alignment then it's expensive. If it's 4 wheel alignment then it's cheap.

If the rear on your car is adjustable you have to do all 4 wheels even though you only failed on the front.

There is no such thing technically really as 2 or 4 wheel alignment, all 4 wheels are always done just on some cars the backs are not adjustable. You cant just say to the lads "hey just do the front there".

That's what I thought, but years ago brought a Focus to a garage and after they had done the alignment they told me they only do the front.
I was not impressed. So if they're a right cowboy outfit, they may only do the front. Which is about as useful as half a haircut.

    I'm bit lost here.
To set front wheel alignment, you have to measure it in line with rear wheels, so measuring equipment needs to be put on all 4 wheels anyway.

Fact is, that plenty of cars have only front toe adjustable - nothing else.
But I've never seen a place charging different price for 2 (front) wheel alignment vs full 4 wheel alignment.

On cars where only front toe is adjustable, I always do it myself with 2 pieces of string and this technique works perfect for me. No need to fork out 50 quid or use very precise laser equipment. My string is precise enough.

Here's a quick video explaining what toe, camber and caster are:
