Micra Park Neutral Position Switch Error (manual)

I have a 2007 1.2L Micra. Its got a manual gearbox on it and my engine light came on last week. The diagnostics is saying its the park neutral position switch but the mechanic has no idea how to fix it, as he says it only usually applies to automatic transmission cars. Any ideas on how to fix it or even how to get the light off in the dash? Any help would be appreciated - plain english please no fancy car lingo :D

most likely it's a switch connected to the clutch pedal that tells the car the clutch is pressed.

the fault code is probably p0705 which has a generic description I park/neutral switch.
that's my understanding of it anyway.

    I'd guess it's either a switch/plug/wiring issue.
