In the same boat, advice I got was to have a UK address and look ready to go, as well as NI no equivalent of PPS.

Just apply and see what happens.

I've applied for quite a number over the last few months and have flown over for interviews. All the trips were paid for by the companies concerned. Some were conducted over video conferencing or skype. I've been unsuccessful so far though and will just be making the move altogether quite soon.

You can give a UK address but what if they ring you and ask you to come to an interview in a day or two, as they assume you are nearby? I can see why it might be a good idea but I've always thought starting off with subterfuge gets the relationship off on the wrong foot. Also you will be unable to get a national insurance number until you are living there and you can start work without one, once you can prove to the employer you have right to work in the UK, which if you're Irish is simple.

The NI number is a pain because some applications require it.

I had the same problem, in the end once I had the job the company a) sorted out my NI number for me and b) opening a current account for me with a work address (which was changed as soon as I got over and settled).

My advice is go for it, my experiences have generally been positive. Just apply and go for it. Also, start looking at cheap transport options for getting there. You can get from Dublin Connolly or Dublin Heuston to any rail station in the UK using a sail and rail ticket. It's a days worth of travelling though, so in some cases it may be better to just fly on the day.

It's a case of going to Newry benefits office to get one there. I'm trying to organise myself up there atm

No way, do you know anyone who has successfully done that, with an ROI address?
