Thanks. Are you some sort of Oracle or super computer? :D

I will probably have lots of frequent and stupid questions, sadly.

Would you recommend any brand over another and where is the best place to buy from?

    Thanks again, appreciate your time.

    Will I need thermal paste?
The mother board has a hdmi. I am going to stick in a dvd rw from old pc, will this be possible with Motherboard?

Thermal paste will be pre applied on the cpu heatsink so no worries there.

You'll be connecting your monitor to the 970, not the motherboard.

It'll depend on how old the drive is. If its sata its okay, if IDE its not. IDE is like a flat ribbon, over an inch wide

Sata is much narrower, maybe 1cm wide

    ok, thanks.

. Happy not to have to mess with paste. The dvd I have is old and looks like an IDE, I may not need one if Windows isn't on a disk? Also, where on reddit do i get it? Please.

Kinda looking forward to this now, good to have yourselves on my side :D

If you get windows from reddit you can throw it onto a bootable usb. Windows provides a tool that mounts this for you as long as you have a big enough usb.

If you google ms software swap reddit and look for $ean.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Reddit software license might very well work, and it might very well get your version of Windows activated, but it is NOT a legal license.

I found a local place with prices that are in and around what was suggested here. I'd go with them as they are quite close to where I live and I can pick them up. Does everything seem right below?

    CPU Intel 1150 Core I5-4460 Tray 3,20GHz 6MB Haswell €195

    Memoria SO DDR3 PC1600 8GB CL11 Kingston €39

    Hard Disk 3,5 1000GB Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda €49.50

1150 ASRock H81M-DGS 2.0 €39 (not sure on this, as they have four pages of H81M / something. )

Hard Disk Stato Solido 250GB Crucial MX200 €91

Scheda Video Gigabyte GTX970 ITX OC 4GB €318

Alimentatore 400W Be Quiet! System Power 7 80+ bronze bulk €46

I might up the budget for a case, if it's worth it for space, look, extra fans etc. what do you think?. I will probably bring the build up to a even €1000, any other suggestions on where the extra cash is best spent?

    Cases.

    Thanks.

I've decided to get a monitor as well, budget is around €150, I'd like it to have a HDMI socket and built in speakers. Any suggestions please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

You'd do well for that, my monitor is a meh 1080p60 with no speakers for €160

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

I could probably up the budget a bit, and one mans Meh is another mans monitor :p

I just don't have space or need for external speakers, if I want loud I have head phones.

I went for a samsung in the finish, without speakers.

Build complete and up and running. Now to go game shopping :p

    Thanks for the help.

I was about to recommend a Reddit licence to a friend so this sort of threw me.

Can you explain why such a licence is not legal please?

    EDIT

I was relying on my faulty memory, but went looking and found the following ...

    http://curia.europa.eu/juris/document/document.jsf?text=&docid=124564&pageIndex=0&doclang=EN&mode=req&dir=&occ=first&part=1&cid=5213884

which essentially states that provided the software key/licence is not in use by the original purchaser then the licence can be sold on to another party ..... and from them to another ..... etc.

This makes the selling of licenced software legal under EU law.

(there are some explanations too ..... it must be the complete licence as purchased .... so a 5 seat licence cannot be broken up into 5 parts for sale, it is regarded as a single licence)

So what is illegal about a Reddit purchase?
