I am looking for information regarding a panel rights/travel situation for primary school.

I am currently teaching a mainstream class. I have never applied for any panel rights previously. However I am considering and would love to go travelling for an extended period come the end of the school year next June 2016.

I am aware that November is the time when the circular for the panel is released. I basically want to know (a) if i apply for panel rights and am entitled to them, but decide to go travelling, do i lose my rights for the future? , and (b) if i dont apply for the panel and go travelling, does it make any difference at all should i apply when i return?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

On my phone so can't quote your question. I know someone who deferred their panel rights this year in order to stay temp in their own school, so certainly this year you could.
In terms of waiting to apply until you come back, to the best of my knowledge that could be risky. You have to be in employment until the end of the year whenever you apply, so cutting links with your current school could be a risk.
Also, not sure if you would return to the same salary point as when you left - someone else may know that.
Does it have to be this year? Could you not apply to the panel and work up your rights to a career break?
