Receiving Invoice for non-VAT registered person

    Should be a handy enough question for somebody to answer but can't find it answered explicitly online.

    We have received an invoice for goods/services supplied by a person who is not registered for VAT (under the thresholds). Does the invoice we have received have to state the VAT exclusive amount, the VAT rate (0% or no VAT?) and the VAT inclusive amount (same as exclusive in this case) or is this information not required because they are not VAT registered? We are VAT registered if that makes any difference.

    No the invoice just needs to have a total, no need to mention VAT.

    If the person is not VAT registered no VAT should be included/added.

    If they are not registered for VAT they can still invoice you for the goods but they cannot charge you VAT
