My car NCT is due in January 2016. I am wondering if I get it done in November 2015, will the next NCT be due in November 2016?

In November it will be less than 90 days before nct expires. Any idea please?

    Many thanks

It will expire Jan 2017 (or 2018 if your car is less than 10 years old) if it's done within 90 days before the due date, you could even get it done next week if it's still within the 90 days.
The NCT are running radio ads crying out for people to do the test asap to relieve the overload that normally occurs each Jan.

That's great info. I will book it for now.

It's 2006 model so I suppose from next year it will be done on yearly basis.

If you can manage to get an nct date before you're inside the 90 day window you will get a 2 year test from that date (voluntary early test) as your car is still only deemed 9 years old.

However if you are inside the 90 day window they will go by the cars registration date and your Jan 06 registered car will be deemed 10 years old so you will only get a years test + however many of months(if you've tested it early inside 90 day window)

Yes it appears the op is now inside 90 days meaning tested til Jan 2017.
If it had been tested start of September for example, it would have got a cert til sept 2017.

it passed, have NCT valid till Oct 2017.

He might still have a chance to take the voluntary early test if his car was registered 2nd week Jan or later.

Sorry yes. I thought he said he was now within 90 days but re reading, it seems not.
Best so to try to get a test date and test pass before the 90 day deadline.

Ah thanks for the valuable info guys.

pardon my ignorance but how do i find when my car was first registered exactly? i bought it from someone else and they said they cant recall the exact week. could i find it online through my number plate?

Also, earlier today I booked NCT test date online for mid-november, they took my card details online and i am not sure if I could apply for earlier inspection. :(

    :o Just found it and it's 31-Jan-2006.

So If i get it done before 31 October 2015, will i get a valid NCT till October 2017?

And do i have to pay extra now, given i already booked a date for mid-november?

    Many thanks everyone!

Yes, it will work if you test it more than 90 days before due date so pretty much before end of October in your case.

You can rebook the appointment online. It won't cost you anything extra if you do it now.

There should be plenty bookings available.
I looked up today for other car, and at 10am I've seen appointment in Westport for 12pm today (in 2 hours). That's definitely the nearest appointment I've ever seen available on NCT website.

Don't cut the time too tightly. Allow time for a possible retest.

My car is a 2005, NCT is due in May.... So if I get it tested in the next few months, does that mean I get an NCT for 2 years instead of 1?

No, as your car is already more than 10 years old (since May 2015).

Got it booked for next week now.

It's surprising to see that NCT center is open even at 8:00 PM

I am not sure whether I should take the car this week to a mechanic for a pre-NCT checkup? What would you guys recommend? Its a 2006 model and working well by all means. But again I am not an expert and maybe shocker or tyres aren't good enough now.

The test center in Little Island in Cork offers 24hr service, if there's heavy demand.

If you have a regular mechanic, ask him to have a look over the car, it's a killer to fail on something simple.

    Update:

Got the car serviced yesterday, changed anti-roll bar link on one side and focus lights.

Went for NCT today and it passed within 20 minutes. NCT valid for 2 years from now on :D

Thanks for everyone for their precious advice/information.
    Cheers!
