Running after Lower leg surgery

Hi everyone, had an accident last year and suffered from Tibial Plateau Fracture Type 2.Screws and a plate was inserted in July 2014.
Hardware removed in July 2015.First ever Half marathon (01:41m) in September 2015.
Now the question is am i mad to go out and do high impact exercises like Road running without slow steady training? I was a commuter cyclist before the accident but decided to run a couple of months ago.my surgeon told me i am good to go but didnt comment on running... my issues are having tight Hip flexors which is causing me anterior knee pain plus some muscle imbalances between right and left leg due to non weight bearing for months.currently doing thomas stretch to do loosen up tension on patellar tendon but dont see much progress. After the hardware removal surgery in July stayed at home for a month and run a few over 13Ks before the Half marathon.I really enjoyed the experience and would love to run full and even Ultra maybe some sort of trail running etc. Cycling during the winter after the green light to put full weight bearing did help to strenghten Quads mainly but I need to get strong balanced 2 legs. Its been really depressing if you ask me.I have been experiencing below ankle pain during longish over 10k runs.is that because of my body not used to handle that distance and it needs more time to become stronger? Metatarsal inflamation, top of the foot pain mostly. I do a bit of bodyweight exercises in the gym.My Cardio system is good so is the will power.I have no problem pushing myself but my only concern is am i going to get knee replacement or cartilage problem after a few years? by the way my running form is not bad have stability shoes for pronation control and run with straight feet not duck or pigeon.
After reading and watching youtube a lot I started exercises targeting 3 Glute muscles, Hip abducters, adductors and single leg squats.

My quads are super dominant and tight than the hamstring and other small muscles such as VMO and pulling my patella too high to cause anterior knee pain on injured leg.plus I am shifting more weight onto my good leg which is causing all round foot pain below calf.
i dont have insurance that covers PT and dont have intention to go to one to be honest.
My strongest at least i believe muscles are Core and Quads rest of the lower body muscles just feel weak during runs.to make it worse I was warned by countless people not to run or do anything stupid.Google search returns with no mention of running marathons after major knee surgery except some come back to biking, cycling, sking etc. ligaments are good i was told.

Okay I will stop right here before overloading Forum Servers lol.

ARE THERE PEOPLE HERE WHO COME BACK TO RUNNING FULL TIME AFTER MAJOR LEG FRACTURE OR SOME SORT?IF SO HOW WAS YOUR JOURNEY? Thanks a lot in advance.
