Recently purchased an 03 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T sline 190 bhp version and after driving it a while and checking online it seems the consensus is that their restricted on standard map and are capable of 225-235 with remap and no major work besides a good inspection of oil feed components and a recirculating dump valve to replace the standard one and a 40-50 euro panel filter. Is there any places down south doing this everywhere seems be up far end of country would be nice to be able to call in somewhere close enough

Place now called K C systems used to do remaps in Watergrasshill, not sure they still do full maps today, I was sure they were called something else years ago.

There's a place in Fermoy do dyno mapping. Pretty knowledgeable guys.

    Not one bit dodgy.

    But on that note,
Your car is quattro? ( 4wd?)
Their dyno is only for 2wd . so a dyno run might not be available to you. Therefore they may refuse to do it as they are very particualr with their work.

I will get on to Lukasz later and ask if they can map a quattro :)

    Save you the trip.

    Spoke with them today
They cannot do the dyno as their one is only for 2wd.
Because of this they can remap for about maybe €200.
It would reach maximum of 230 according to Jarek ( Pronounced YAREK )

If you ring them tell them Eugene spoke to Jarek today about it.

Thanks for the info! must ring them early next week for chat see what think and if suitable to map without a dyno would prefer map it on dyno or have someone map it in the car while driving friend had his evo done this way and map is perfect for every gear

That's a different type of mapping to be honest. It's live mapping and is not required for a standard remap on a 1.8T Quattro tbh.

I had my evo live mapped by AI Autosport in Belfast but I get my generic cars (320d, 535d, 525d etc) remapped the same way that Fermoy do it using Martin in Autoremap.

The dyno just shows before and after figures, they don't generally use it to map run of the milk cars.

That is basically what Jarek said to me yesterday. It is a straightforward remap.

would it not be essential to see cars figures before map on dyno so as to suss out potential loss of power issues and have something to compare to after then? just want to get it done the right way after hearing horror stories of poor maps/mapper on cars and the consequences

Interesting to see before and after but experienced mappers like these guys will certainly give you something to smile about.

It will not be a horro story as you put it.

Get it done by one of the reputable mappers mentioned on this thread and you should have no issues. Go with the cheapest guys who meet you in a car park with a laptop + cable and expect the worst really.

It can be an advantage to have a before and after as rolling road can give you fueling and boost info through the Rev range.

As mentioned before a genuine live map is best for any car as the data fed to mapper is genuine reading of what a car does under load.

Rolling road map is good still, as it will still be mapped to that particular car just it uses a range used under load of 1 gear, normally 4th in set conditions. Still an element of risk but minor.

In my opinion avoid any form of generic/handheld flash maps. All engines are different work in different conditions, products bought are most likely different to those used to make map etc etc, to many variables.

From Opel point of view generic maps are what's used by the few mappers in this country and end up using outside components like meth/nos injection systems, winding up boost actuator to try control problems caused by a generic map.

Op you could buy a set of axle stands from lidl and you could use the 2wd rolling road then, stick the back up on the stands.

I would love to see the garage that would allow that .!

Its a very fair compromise, I do not see any issue with it.

A garage's insurance company might though.

Your engine is probably has the K03s turbo, a remap will see about 220 bhp. A panel filter is a good idea, ITG are about the best of them.
The diverter valve is not needed, provided your original is working ok.

If it were me I would have a boost/vacuum leak test done before the remap.
There are lots of small hoses under the inlet manifold that perish and cause air leaks.

Not awake yet, I thought I read it was an A3 and was going to recommend pulling the fuse for the haldex unit to run the car in 2wd for the dyno run.

Before getting any mapping done make sure everything is working as it should. Most of these will have issues that need addressing at this stage. If it was my car I would look at doing the following before getting it mapped:

    1. Intake system leak test as Neil says above. The 1.8T A4 isn't nearly as bad as the same engine in the Golf based cars for suffering from leaking vacuum pipes but it is still worth checking. The small check valve on the main breather hose gives a lot of trouble on them as well and is very cheap and easy to change so probably worth doing while you are at it.
    2. Spark plugs, change them. Use NGK (PFR6Q) plugs only, they don't like anything else. Mapped cars will need them replaced every 20k miles.
    3. Change the fuel filter, hardly ever gets done and it will make a noticeable difference.
    4. Get throttle body cleaned and ECU adaptations cleared and basic settings carried out.
    5. If you are planning on keeping the car long term then a new engine coolant temp sensor and air flow meter would be a good investment. Genuine parts only, nothing else works.
    6. Another good idea as a preventative measure would be to get the sump removed and cleaned out and the oil pump pickup replaced. These engines suffer badly from sludge buildup which kills plenty of them.

I personally wouldn't bother with a panel filter, I don't like them but that's just personal preference.

Yeah the oil pick up is something in particular i wanted to get done for peace of mind first. was going to do a full service before the map will look into a diagnostic and vacuum test aswell just so have peace of mind seeing plenty of these advertised with engine gone or replaced engine but got full service history with car so looks well looked after and serviced main dealer regularly

    Yes,
As George advised. The Pickup pipe does give issues in these. My son got his one done at the above garage and a full oil / filter change at the same time.
He was having the oil light flashing issue at times.
    Lukasz sorted it for him.
