    Hi Guys,

I'm at the early stages of interview with Amazon (Web Services - deployment support) and I'm looking for some advice on what its like working for Amazon if anyone has experiences or heard stories?

Without getting too long winded, I am currently working in a new role (2.5 months) which I do actually like...not everything is perfect but its early days.

Because of this, I am thinking of just dropping the amazon interview process but I dont want to make any ill-informed decisions. I have very limited information on the whole job (salary, benefits etc) and whats its like to work there....so some information on experiences of working there would be very much appreciated.

I have read some bad reviews of them already but nothing diffinative and a lot of mixed reports.

    Thanks in advance.

Like a lot of American multi nationals they will demand your soul if you get through the myriad of interviews.

I've no direct experience but you should hang in even if its just for the interview experience.

I am an AWS partner and all I can tell you are that Amazon are really at the forefront and by far the leaders in this space. AWS is already huge and growing at a phenomenal rate and their product and service offerings are being released at a staggering rate. I talk to a lot of people who work there and yes you will work hard but for IT this is a great place to be in terms of the experience you get.

Thanks for the input guys...a bit of information to weigh up so.

I do like my current position and the technologies used I feel are in demand (.net application, SQL backend hosted on Azure). I have worked for an american multi-national before and found it to be a very structured or limited role...sounds like AWS might not be the same however.

Thanks for the input, leaning towards seeing how it goes.

I know several people who have worked for Amazon and have left because of the demands put on them. You are very definitely a small cog in the machine and are treated as such. On saying that it is a good place to get experience but I am only aware of one former colleague who has lasted any length of time in there and that is in the sales function.

If you didn't enjoy working for a big US corporation I would be wary of them.

Ye, from what I've read online it seems that you have a point re: high demands.

From my own point of veiw the interview process possibly being 6 stages turns me off...total over-kill.

I am going to give it a run out anyway see how far I go :P provided it fits around my current work schedule.

All the US multis are the same with interviews.
Its worth the interview experience if nothing else.

If someone finds who that successful company is who don't ask their employees to work hard and don't make demands on them, let me know :D

Being world-class at anything is hard. Getting to be the market leader in any part of IT is hard, and staying there is harder. You should know that going in there. If the fact that it will be hard work is an issue for you, it's the wrong job for you, simple as that.

I never said hard work would be an issue for me.

    Thanks for the input guys!
