Men shaving chest and under arms. Opinions?

A thread in TLL got me thinking about this. For reasons of personal preference I shave my chest once a month or so in order that the hair doesn't get longer than about 5mm. I don't like body hair in general, I think it looks and feels scruffy.

I also shave my underarms occasionally to keep the hair short.

I also trim (not shave) my pubic hair occasionally to keep it short, neat and tidy.

Do many guys do these things? I know shaving chest and trimming the vegetable area might be fairly common but is shaving underarms very unusual for a guy?

I trim my giblets every month but that's as far as it goes.

Got my back waxed before going on honeymoon but I've no real inclination to maintain it.

My wife doesn't mind and she loves my hairy chest too so it would be a lot of effort for no good reason.

What ever about shaving / waxing your chest, men shaving their underarms is just plain weird to me.

    :/

Really? Would this be generally be considered very weird across the board?

I wouldn't regularly shave under my arms bare, like not every week. When I trim below I would shave back underarms using the clippers and then maybe shave there with the razor and that would do for like a month or so.

I just find hairy underarms horrible. A lot of hair there will hold sweat and whiffs.

Would it be more common for guys to trim it back rather than shave it?

I sweat quite a bit. And I was finding that, no matter what I did, I couldn't stop myself from pouring sweat under my arms in the morning in work.

So I tried getting the beard trimmer to the underarms and using a roll on. It worked. So i've done it a couple of times since.

I've an incredibly hairy chest but my girlfriend loves it so wouldn't go near it with a razor

I'd do a bit of manscaping down there anorl - used to shave completely but now its usually just ballsack and base of the shaft

I do the same manscaping down below that a few people have mentioned here, but I also shave my chest from time to time. It's naturally not very hairy, but the hair there is congregates right in the middle and around the nipples, and it just look a lot better when shaved.

As for underarms, I keep them relatively tamed, so I'll shave it back a bit if the hair gets really long (as it does naturally), but I think it would look odd if it was bare.

For me it's trimmed chest hair..very tight manscaping and completely shaved under arms...I do a lot of sports and find no armpit hair less irritating and much cleaner..

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but there's something feminine about a man shaving his body hair.

For underarm hair in particular, it's not there for no reason. It wicks sweat away from the skin, so the odour-producing bacteria aren't stuck to your body.

My thinking was that underarm hair wicks sweat, and as the underarm hair is covered in bacteria anyway, this makes for more surface area which can generate whiffs and smells.

Anyhow, I can think of few things more retch inducing in the hair department than a guy with wild tufts of untamed armpit hair protruding from his pits.

    Smooth it is for me.

What also disgusts me is fellas with out of control hair eminating from their nose and ears. This would typically be smelly middle aged overweight guys anyway.

OK, I got a thing about hair!

This may be the case, but in practice for me, I notice that if I have no hair and use a roll on deodourant, I sweat much less under the arms than when I have a load of hair there.

I'd rather have no hair and no sweat than a load of hair and to feel uncomfortable in work for the whole day. Not to mention the smell when it stats hitting 3:30pm - 4pm!

I honestly have no idea why anyone would be weirded out by this. It's not as if people walk around topless with their arms over their head. I can count on one hand the number of people who have seen my armpits in the past 10 years.

I shaved my armpits before to reduce sweatsmell. It worked, but I found myself doing the chicken dance every few minutes to unstick my arm from my side (even with using a roll-on). Since then I just give it a monthly trim. Keep enough hair to prevent sticking, and not enough hair to retain sweatsmell.

As for the chest, I don't shave, but take a scissors every few weeks to the really long hairs around my nipples. I'm a pretty hairy guy overall. No point me shaving anything unless I shave everything.

I keep it tidy south of the border but leave the chest and underarm hair as nature intended.

I really hate my back hair and it really hurts my confidence with the ladies but I just can't see myself taking any action about it. I don't exactly have much of a beach body with or without the fuzz and I just can't justify that kind of maintenance to myself.

If I'm totally honest, I'd see it as pretty effeminate behaviour.

I have sparse whispy back hair too. Mostly across my shoulders and then some in the small of my back.

I was half thinking of getting this waxed off.

I have no idea why any bloke would worry about their chest, underarm or back hair. Armpit hair will only smell if you don't wash it properly.

The bacteria has a job to do, and it doesn't live on the hair. It lives on your skin, so throw that theory out.

Absolutely. But each to their own.

My wife would be put right off if I looked after myself that much.

So, what's the craic? Ladies Lounge is full? The Gentlemans Club is accommodating the overspill until server space becomes available?
