Can you claim Flat Rate Expenses if you are a 9-5 office worker in the private sector ?

    Check the list: http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/employee-expenses.html

Some of the jobs are office based.

If you're not on the list then there's no claim.

After reading this post I noticed that I was entitled to €93 in flat rate expenses. I logged in to PAYE anytime and filled it in for the past 4 years. Anyway I got my P21 statements this morning but it said I had underpayed by €9.40 each year. How is this possible? I was balanced prior to that so I am not sure how I could have underpayed.
    Anybody any idea?

You previously had a higher rate of flat rate expenses applied?

Not that I was aware. I don't think I had claimed any.

You don't get expenses x years back - it doesn't work that way. If it did, you'd have owed them 45 per year, not 9.40

Flat Rate Expenses are a deduction from taxable income, and are not equal to cash in hand of the amounts stated on the spreadsheet.

So, 93 means a deduction of 93 from your total taxable income for the year. If you're taxed at 20%, then the credit is 93 @ 20% = 18.60

    You were getting relief previously of 138 so 138 @ 20% = 27.60

    27.60 LESS 18.60 = €9 difference

There is only one way to find out if you entitled to flat rate expenses .

You write a note to tax office outlining your working circumstances , cost of clothing footwear tools etc , and give an estimated amount of expenses .

The tax office will then decide your entitlement .

Not all jobs are listed on revenue spreadsheet
